Burnout

The birds are coming faster then we can place them into appropriate homes. This is so unbalanced. More and more people are acquiring birds. More and more birds are being passed from one home to another. What is wrong with this picture? What's wrong is that people are not educated prior to getting a bird as to what a bird truly needs to thrive in captivity, not just survive. They are either unwilling or unable to keep their commitment to these long lived creatures.
I just read some statistics saying that birds are the third most popular pets after cats and dogs. When will the Humane Societies, Animal Controls, and SPCAs have programs up and running to accomodate these creatures? One would think that Florida would be the first in line. I am working on it.

This is a very important issue.
Bird breeders are rarely licensed,
Babies are snatched from sad parents and sold to make humans money.
Within 2 years of adopting a bird the owners seek to dump it.
A huge swell of this has occurred in the last 5 years when the ban to import exotic birds went into effect.
I welcome comments to me to add to my bird rescue website.
